Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. This can cause severe pain, heavy periods, fatigue, and infertility. It affects approximately 1 in 10 women and people assigned female at birth during their reproductive years.
Despite its prevalence, endometriosis often takes years to diagnose, with many individuals facing dismissal of their symptoms and inadequate care. The condition can significantly impact quality of life, affecting work, relationships, and daily activities.
There is currently no cure for endometriosis, but treatments are available to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. Early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach to care are essential.
